In partial thickness burn injuries, silver sulfadiazine cream 1% is the most commonly used topical agent world wide. But it has no exudates absorption property. The Medifoam? (Ildong Pharm) is one of the popular dressing materials for superficial burn wound for its excellent absorptive capacity. But it has limited usage because there is no antibiotic property on Medifoam?. Recently, Medifoam-Silver? (Biopol, Korea) coated with silver sulfadiazine has been introduced and authors applied it for superficial second degree burn patient. From a study was done for 47 years old women with 20% flame burn injury. The dressing was applied for right flank area and donor site for spilt thickness skin graft (STSG) at both anterolateral thigh area. The flank area was completely healed after 12 days later without any complication. However, the Medifoam-Silver? was hard to continue to apply for STSG donor area because of pain induced by dressing material. The Medifoam-Silver? showed a similar healing time compared to the Medifoam?. But is caused moderate to severe degree of pain from the dressing site. In conclusion, more multi-centered comparative study and modification of the product will be required to determine Medifoam-Silver? dressings as treatment choice in selected patients.
